FAQs

1. How do I join Su Ragazzi Volleyball Club?

All new players are invited to come along to the Development sessions which run on Monday nights, 6-730pm at Smithycroft High School. These sessions are Pay as you Play at £2 per session. From here we can assess your level of volleyball knowledge and skill and will let you know when you are ready to progress to the National League training sessions - if you wish! Please complete the registration and book your sessions via our Class Schedule website. Your first session is free (select the OFFERS TRIAL button)!

2. What age do I have to be to join Su Ragazzi Volleyball Club?

Our Development Volleyball sessions on Monday nights are for ages 11 and upward and we currently have a very mixed group of all ages, genders, sporting levels and backgrounds. Our National League teams have a minimum age of 16yrs and upwards due to the restrictions of the Scottish Volleyball Assosciation for registering players, and to ensure you are at the correct level and ability to play in a high performance sport.

3. I'd like to join the club but not as a player - are there any other roles for me?

We have many roles in the club which do not involve playing and are always looking for volunteers to help run and manage the club. Some example roles include referees, coaches, match secretary and match day coordinator, website and social media management, child protection officer and treasurer. If you would be interested in any of these roles, or any other role within the club, please contact suragazzivcenquiries@gmail.com

4. What should I expect at the Development sessions?

The development sessions are ran by our qualified coach James Orr, with assistance from at least one member of the mens and womens national league teams. After players register on arrival and £2 is collected (unless paid online), the session begins with a volleyball specifc warm up, this may be working as an individual, a pair or in teams. We encourage all players towork together an this begins to build the team ethos required for volleyball. Once warm, your coach will guide you through some skill focussed drills to allow you to work on a specific area of your game. The drill will become more complex throughout the session to continue to challenge you, and finally we will finish in a game like situation where you can put your new skills to practice!

5. How do the Senior National League teams work if I was choosen to progress to the next level?

Both mens and womens senior national league teams train 1.5hrs, twice a week and are required to play in a competitive match most Saturdays. All teams are entered into the League and Scottish Cup competitions which both include a mixture of home and away matches. Home matches involve men and womens teams playing in the same venue and providing officials for each other. We are required to travel to away games on our own cost and players usually car share and travel together in a few cars. Sadly there are costs involved to play at this level including Club Training subs, SVA Player Registration and and travel costs. These values can vary from season to season so the coach or treasurer will discuss these with you at the time.
