Securing the winning habit

On a very frosty Saturday in Coatbridge Su Ragazzi Volleyball Club completed the first half of the season fixtures by yet again winning all four of the day’s matches.

First up were the Su II boys who defeated Dave McEwan’s Lenzie side 3 sets to 1. Interviewed after the match Captain Gordie McGilivray was asked:

With a win-loss record of 7 and 3 the first half of the season has been very competitive. What does the team have to do in the second half to be more effective?

To which Gordie replied;

“We need to be more efficient in our ability to side-out first phase, if we can do that we have a strong chance of winning some silverware”.

Match number 2
The second match saw the City of Glasgow Ragazzi take on Premier Division new comers NUVOC. This was a solid 3 – 0 win for the home team, but the visitors, led by Setter Sean Stobie, fought for every point and made the match much more competitive than had been expected.

After the match senior middle blocker Darren Martin was asked; City of Glasgow Ragazzi have been the dominant force in this season’s Premier Division, what do you think is the secret of their success?

Darren replied; “The team dynamic is very good – we are working together well as a unit. All of the systems are beginning to fall into place showing our dominance”.

Match 3
Match 3 saw the Fabulous Suettes play NUVOC ladies, with Jillian Barton making her home debut as first team coach. In a one sided affair, the Suettes demonstrated that their consistent efforts on the practice gym have all been worthwhile as they romped home to a 3 sets to 0 win.

After the match Captain Carly Murray was asked;

From a personal perspective what has been the highlight of the season so far for the Fabulous Suettes?

To which she ominously replied:

“We’ve gelled together as a team even with some new and younger players. We’re playing well just now, but we know there’s more to come after Christmas”.

Match 4
Match 4 was the most competitive of the day, with the Su II girls taking on Glasgow International. The home side won 3 – 1 but it was a tense affair with both teams playing some great stuff.

The key to the game was the service – from both sides it was brutal, but combined with some very smart outside hitting the home side prevailed.

Senior outside hitter Ina Lefering was interviewed after the match and asked;

This season has seen a marked change to the home match arrangements for the Su II girls. Do you think this has helped them to maintain their excellent performance level?

To which Ina replied;

“Definitely! It’s good to have support this year”.

So, in the first half of the season Su Ragazzi Volleyball Club have played in 40 League and Cup matches and have won 35 of them. In addition to this incredible feat we have won all four matches played on 4 different Saturdays – that’s simply stunning, and carries a ‘feel good factor’ of 10 out of 10!
